Stuðlagil Canyon is located in eastern Iceland in Glacier Valley. It´s recognizeable because of beautifull green/blue colour of the river and basalt rock formations.
For long time this canyon wasn´t popular place to visit beacuse of really strong river current Jökulsá á Dal. The situation has changed when the hydroelectric plant was built on that river. The water level has changed, the power of the river decreased, not carrying anymore mud and sand. The river became clear and green coloured.
One more thing - during the autumn the water in the canyon is changing its colour to gray (become for a while glacier river) - at this time is still safe to visit canyon, but it's not that beautiful, as then, when the water is clear.
