High Desert Mountain Pass in the Cascades

Dino Molter Bend, OR, USA

I recently took a road trip to Bend, Oregon, which is about three and a half hours from where I live in Vancouver, Washington. I took some cool pics on the way home, through the mountain pass, but I was mostly impressed by how different the landscape changed from the arid high plains desert to the lush forested Western side of the pass, as we drove toward the valley on the other side. Both environments have their own endearing qualities that are beautiful in their own right, but it’s the contrasting colors and mood that made the trip so special for me. I hope you have a chance to check it out for yourself sometime, it’s definitely worth it. Take care and have FUN!

Crater Lake, Oregon: One of my Favorite Places

Dino Molter Crater Lake, Oregon, USA

Crater Lake is such a cool place! It’s an ancient volcano that erupted about 8000 years ago, and then collapsed upon itself forming a caldera over 2000 feet deep. This is the deepest lake in the United States, filled only by rain water, snowfall, and snow-melt, because there are no rivers flowing in or out. Crater Lake is the centerpiece of Crater Lake National Park, which is located in South-central Oregon, and very remote. Since there are no cities nearby, you can easily see the Milky Way galaxy on a clear night. It’s like looking at a river of stars in the sky. My trip there was such an amazing experience, and one that I will never-ever forget. This is why Crater Lake in one of my favorite places.

Mount St. Helens, Washington

Dino Molter Mount St. Helens, Washington, USA

Mount St. Helens is about 50 miles NE of Portland, Oregon, and it’s a wonder of natural beauty. It’s an active volcano in the Cascade mountain range in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. May 18, 2020 was the 40th anniversary of a notorious earthquake and volcanic eruption that blew off almost 2000 feet from the Northern face and summit, which resulted in the largest debris avalanche in modern recorded history. The indigenous Peoples tell a story of the mountain being a jealous wife who is throwing stones at her husband’s mistress, the nearby Mount Reiner.

Old Istanbul - Hagia Sophia

Dino Molter İstanbul, Turkey

Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey, is jewel and a national treasure. It’s a former basilica and mosque, and now a living museum. Built in 537 AD as a Byzantine Christian cathedral, it transitioned to an Ottoman mosque in 1453, and then later a museum in 1935, where it’s endured continuous renovation work through the present day. Istanbul is a friendly city and this was an incredible highlight of my trip. I encourage you to make it there and experience the wonder and amazement of this special architectural masterpiece. Enjoy!

Portland is known as Stumptown and is a really cool place to visit. It's a vibrant and cultured diverse city with a lot to offer. We have the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, the International Rose Test Garden, the Portland Japanese Garden, and the Portland Saturday Market. to name a few. Plus we have so many opportunities nearby to get out into nature, like the Columbia River Gorge, Mt. Hood, and so much more.
